Basketball Recap: Riverdale Gets the Win

Riverdale played in conference for the first time on Friday and they got just the result they we're looking for. They slipped by the Minarets Mustangs 40-39. This was payback for the Cowboys, who suffered a 37-23 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Riverdale can attribute much of their success to Karen Ayala, who posted 14 points.

Minarets lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Savannah Garabedian, who had 18 points in addition to eight boards and seven steals. That was a full 46.2% of Minarets' points, marking the third time in a row she's scored more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Amie Matteson, who earned seven points along with eight rebounds and eight steals.

Riverdale's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 12-8. As for Minarets, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-13.

Riverdale didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 66-27 loss against Yosemite on the 28th. Minarets has also already played their next match, a 101-10 defeat against Caruthers on the 28th.
