Two dominant signal callers in Brenton James and Tamen Zabetakis are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The St. Augustine Yellow Jackets will host the Choctawhatchee Indians at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
St. Augustine is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They breezed past ED White to the tune of 44-12. The result was nothing new for the Yellow Jackets, who have now won seven games by 20 points or more so far this season.
This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Durell Preston and Trendell Anderson. Preston rushed for 110 yards and one TD on only 12 carries while Anderson gained 87 total yards and two touchdowns.
St. Augustine's defense made their presence known, laying out King Boylston four times. Mason Beane refused to say out of the backfield, picking up two sacks all by himself. St. Augustine got some further help from Beane: he picked up two sacks and made eight total tackles.
Meanwhile, Choctawhatchee beat Columbia 27-20 on Friday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Indians.
The critical scores for Choctawhatchee came from Jordan Figueroa, Amir Reese, Carter Marracco, and DJ Spence.
Choctawhatchee's run defense was locked in: Columbia could only muster 2.8 yards per carry. The Indians didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 7.4.
Choctawhatchee didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The team can thank two different players for their defensive prowess: Reese and Jaylen Brazan, who each picked up one interception apiece. Reese got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
St. Augustine's record is now 11-1. As for Choctawhatchee, their record now sits at an identical 11-1.
St. Augustine beat Choctawhatchee 13-6 in their previous meeting back in November of 2024. Will the Yellow Jackets repeat their success, or do the Indians have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
