Baseball Recap: Hephzibah Takes a Loss

After flying high against Howard last Tuesday, Hephzibah came back down to earth. Hephzibah lost 16-9 to Howard on Friday. The Rebels were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Huskies earlier this season, when they won 15-5.

Trenton Dunn and Christopher Kohn did some serious damage despite the final result: Dunn scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Kohn scored a run and stole three bases while going 3-for-4. Dunn is becoming a predictor of Hephzibah's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 3-9 when he doesn't). Rodney Patterson was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

They weren't the only ones working in the hit department: Hephzibah kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 3.5 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 10.6.

Hephzibah's defeat dropped their record down to 6-10. As for Howard, their victory ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-13.

Looking ahead, Hephzibah will take on Westside at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hephzibah's pitchers better be ready for this one: Westside has averaged an impressive 8.2 runs per game this season. As for Howard, they will square off against Northeast at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Howard is facing Northeast at the right time seeing as Northeast is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
