Basketball Recap: Williams Valley Triumphs

Williams Valley hadn't done well against Mahanoy Area recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. In a tight matchup that could have gone either way, the Williams Valley Vikings made off with a 38-37 win over the Mahanoy Area Golden Bears. Given the Vikings' advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 134th, while the Golden Bears are ranked 339th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Several Golden Bears players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Felicia Bro, who went 5 for 10 on her way to 13 points and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Ella Connolly, who posted ten points and five boards.

Williams Valley pushed their record up to 13-2 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 25.4 points. As for Mahanoy Area, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-7.

Williams Valley has already played their next game (against Nativity BVM), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Mahanoy Area wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 49-18 win against Jim Thorpe on the 25th.
