Basketball Game Preview: Oaks Christian Lions vs. Calabasas Coyotes

Two dominant guards in Presley Kushner and Scarlett Weiner are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Oaks Christian Lions will host the Calabasas Coyotes at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Oaks Christian is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.2 points per game this season.

Oaks Christian is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Agoura: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Oaks Christian blew Agoura out of the water with a 64-29 final score. The Lions pushed the score to 49-19 by the end of the third, a deficit the Chargers had little chance of recovering from.

Oaks Christian can attribute much of their success to Kushner, who went 8 of 14 en route to 22 points and four steals, and Andrea Woodward, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine steals. The dominant performance gave Woodward a new career-high in steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Faith ODaniel, who posted ten points along with six assists and six steals.

Oaks Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 25 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 17 consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Calabasas was beaten by Newbury Park 60-24 on Monday. The game marked the Coyotes' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

This is the second loss in a row for Calabasas and nudges their season record down to 6-8. As for Oaks Christian, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-12.

Oaks Christian came up short against Calabasas when the teams last played back in January of 2024, falling 76-71. Thankfully for Oaks Christian, Maddy Tauro (who went 10 of 19 on her way to 26 points and eight steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
