Basketball Game Preview: Pierce Bears vs. Colusa RedHawks

The Pierce Bears will host the Colusa RedHawks at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Last Tuesday, Pierce took their matchup with ease, bagging a 62-25 victory over Paradise. Given the Bears' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 397th, while the Bobcats are ranked 1124th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, you can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Colusa's strategy against Hamilton on Monday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Colusa blew Hamilton out of the water with a 69-22 final score. With the RedHawks ahead 41-11 at the half, the contest was all but over already.

Pierce better keep an eye on Danica Chavez. She was instrumental in Colusa's win, almost dropping a double-double on 15 points and nine assists. The game was Chavez's 11th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Addison Lay, who went 6 of 8 on her way to 13 points and seven boards.

Colusa is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 18-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.8 points per game. As for Pierce, their win bumped their record up to 16-7.
