Basketball Recap: Anaya Mcglory's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Escondido over Valley Center

It was a proper cat-fight when Escondido challenged Valley Center on Tuesday. The Escondido Cougars fell to the Valley Center Jaguars 41-37. The Cougars have struggled against the Jaguars recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.

Escondido's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Anaya McGlory, who posted 19 points along with five boards and five steals. Abbey White was another key player, putting up eight points and three steals.

Valley Center found their leader in sophomore Mykayla Degen, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 steals. Degen is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Nashayla Chaipos, who earned five points in addition to ten rebounds and six steals.

Escondido's loss dropped their record down to 6-11. As for Valley Center, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 11-8.

Escondido will be playing in front of their home fans against Mt. Carmel at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Valley Center, they will venture away from home to take on San Marcos at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. San Marcos knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past five games -- so hopefully Valley Center likes a good challenge.
