Baseball Recap: Avondale Comes Up Short

Avondale fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Clarenceville on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Trojans by a score of 14-13. The Yellowjackets' loss continues a trend for the team, making it nine in a row.

Avery Prentice made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with four runs, two triples, and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Avondale's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-1 (and 2-12-1 when he doesn't). Nathan Tacheny also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Avondale's defeat dropped their record down to 7-13-1. As for Clarenceville, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-11.

Coming up, Avondale will take on Lutheran Northwest at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Crusaders' pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so the Yellowjackets' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Clarenceville, they will be playing at home against Crestwood at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Chargers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.71 runs per game on average), something the Trojans will no doubt try to take advantage of.
