Basketball Recap: Garner Comes Up Short

Garner played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through a 79-51 loss at the hands of the New Hanover Wildcats. The Trojans were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 41-21.

It was another big night for Kellum Brown, who dropped a double-double with 31 points and 11 boards for New Hanover. Brown is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in each of the last five games he's played dating back to last season. Ny'Zion Ballard was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with 19 points and nine boards.

Garner's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for New Hanover, their win was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-1.

Looking ahead, Garner will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Southeast Raleigh at 7:00 p.m. The Trojans will be up against the Bulldogs' rather soft defense (which has allowed 64.83 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for New Hanover, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 71-41 victory against South Mecklenburg on the 6th.
