Soccer Game Preview: Avon Lake vs. Berea-Midpark

The Avon Lake Shoremen will square off against the Berea-Midpark Titans at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Neither squad made it on the board the last time they hit the pitch, so they've probably got a bit of extra motivation.

While Avon Lake's victory against Mentor wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Shoremen's defense stepped up to hand the Cardinals a 1-0 shutout on Saturday. Given Avon Lake's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio soccer rankings (they are ranked fifth, while Mentor are ranked 249th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Avon Lake's one-goal win came courtesy of Luke Bellenir, who's now up to five this season.

Meanwhile, Berea-Midpark fell victim to Hoover and their airtight defense on Saturday. They lost 7-0 to the Vikings.

Avon Lake's win bumped their record up to 12-1-2. As for Berea-Midpark, they dropped their record down to 2-9-3 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Avon Lake came out on top in a nail-biter against Berea-Midpark in their previous meeting back in August of 2024, sneaking past 3-2. Will the Shoremen repeat their success, or do the Titans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
