Basketball Recap: St. Mary's Find Success

With a playoff win on the line, St. Mary rose to the challenge on Friday. They walked away with a 62-55 win over the Lyons Lions. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Pirates.

St. Mary's found their leader in freshman Kisean Dawson, who dropped a double-double with 24 points and ten boards. The dominant performance gave Dawson a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Bret Stewart, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and nine assists.

St. Mary's was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. They are 15-6 when they've passed the ball that well.

Lyons' loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Caleb Christiansen, who posted 18 points and six steals. Christiansen is becoming a predictor of Lyons' success: when he posts at least five steals the team is 9-3 (and 4-7 when he doesn't). Zeke Paznokas was another key player, putting up 17 points.

St. Mary's record is now 16-8. As for Lyons, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 13-10.

St. Mary's didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 56-37 defeat against Resurrection Christian on the 8th. Lyons does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
