Recap: St. Joseph Academy Crusaders vs. Rancho Buena Vista Longhorns
The St. Joseph Academy Crusaders were the 42-31 winner over the Rancho Buena Vista Longhorns when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. St. Joseph Academy fell 47-35 to Rancho Buena Vista on Saturday. St. Joseph Academy found out winning isn't easy when you're outrebounded 24 to 7 on offense.
St. Joseph Academy's loss came despite strong showings from Luciana Aguilar and Pamela Torres. Aguilar scored 15 points along with nine rebounds, while Torres scored 12 points along with seven rebounds. Aguilar scored a full 42.9% of St. Joseph Academy's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Rancho Buena Vista got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Camille Dake out in front who scored 19 points along with six rebounds. The game was Dake's 14th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Kylie Salzler, who scored 13 points.
St. Joseph Academy's loss dropped their record down to 7-9. As for Rancho Buena Vista, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 9-8.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Joseph Academy is on the road again on Wednesday and play against Classical Academy at 5:30 p.m. on January 3rd. Rancho Buena Vista and Cathedral Catholic will face off at 6:30 p.m. on January 3rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Cathedral Catholic has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
