Basketball Recap: Hemet Now 11-1 over Last 12 Games

Hemet won the last time they faced Canyon Springs, and Ruby Gonzalez- Horta did her part to make sure it happened again. The Hemet Bulldogs came out on top against the Canyon Springs Cougars by a score of 50-41 on Wednesday thanks in part to Gonzalez- Horta, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and 12 boards. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.

Jeglia Butler was another key player, putting up seven points. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in field goal percentage (60%).

Canyon Springs' loss came despite strong showings from Kaleayah Marshall and Izabella Tejada. Marshall dropped a double-double with 17 points and 15 rebounds, while Tejada posted 11 points along with eight assists and seven boards. The game was Marshall's third in a row with at least 15 points.

Hemet has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 22-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.2 points over those games. As for Canyon Springs, their loss dropped their record down to 19-6.

Hemet and Canyon Springs are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Hemet will face off against Ramona at 7:00 p.m. on February 13th. Hemet is on a nine-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), Ramona a nine-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. As for Canyon Springs, they will host Tustin at 7:00 p.m. on February 13th. Tustin will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Canyon Springs surely won't give up without a fight.
