Basketball Game Preview: Newport Christian Seahawks vs. Samueli Academy Firewolves

The Newport Christian Seahawks are taking a road trip to square off against the Samueli Academy Firewolves at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Last Thursday, it was close, but Newport Christian sidestepped Capistrano Valley Christian for a 39-36 win. The team accrued 28 points in the first half and coasted on those for the victory.

Meanwhile, Samueli Academy hadn't done well against The Webb Schools recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Samueli Academy narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past The Webb Schools 26-23. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Firewolves have posted since December 1, 2023.

Newport Christian better keep an eye on Kennedy Cortez. She was instrumental in Samueli Academy's win, putting up eight points. Joselyn Hernandez was another key player, posting six points.

Samueli Academy's win bumped their record up to 5-10. As for Newport Christian, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-0.

Newport Christian took their win against Samueli Academy when the teams last played back in January of 2022 by a conclusive 53-31. In that matchup, Newport Christian amassed a halftime lead of 27-5, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Tuesday.
