Softball Recap: Monday's Win Is Wilcox County's Ninth in Last 11 Outings

Wilcox County had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 12-run drubbing they dealt Hawkinsville on Monday. The Patriots blew past the Red Devils 15-3. Considering the Patriots have won seven contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Shamauri Martin made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 2.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in September of 2024.

In other batting news, Zariah Martin was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in September of 2024. Maeson Owens was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Wilcox County has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games. As for Hawkinsville, they dropped their record down to 2-16 with the defeat, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Coming up, Wilcox County will challenge Schley County at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Hawkinsville, they will face off against Marion County at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Red Devils' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 9 runs per game this season.
