Football Game Preview: Mayer Lutheran Crusaders vs. Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity Bulldogs

The Mayer Lutheran Crusaders will take on the Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (Mayer Lutheran 13.6, Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity 11.4) so any points scored will be well earned.

On Friday, Mayer Lutheran ended up a good deal behind St. James and lost 41-27. The defensive woes were uncharacteristic for the Crusaders, who until this contest were averaging 13.57 points allowed.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Gabriel Shimanski, who threw for 182 yards and four TDs, and also rushed for 51 yards on only six carries. Another player making a difference was Wyatt Sunde, who picked up 93 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.

The home team had won the previous five meetings between Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity and Cleveland/Immanuel Lutheran, and Cleveland/Immanuel Lutheran kept the tradition alive. The game between the Bulldogs and Cleveland/Immanuel Lutheran didn't end well, with the Bulldogs falling 21-6. The Bulldogs' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Mayer Lutheran, their loss dropped their record down to 4-3.

Things could have been worse for Mayer Lutheran, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 23-6 loss to Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. Can the Crusaders avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
