Baseball Recap: Gatewood Beats Pinewood Christian for Their Third Straight Victory

Gatewood had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 1-0 W against the Pinewood Christian Patriots. This was payback for the Gators, who suffered a 3-2 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Gatewood's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Hunter Johnson, who went 1-for-3 with one double.

Gatewood hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least two batters in three consecutive matches.

Gatewood's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-6. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.7 runs over those games. As for Pinewood Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 14-4.

Looking ahead, Gatewood is taking a road trip to square off against Windsor Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Knights have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.14 runs per game on average), something the Gators will no doubt try to take advantage of. Pinewood Christian will be paying especially close attention to Gatewood's contest: after Gatewood faces off against Windsor Academy, they'll take on Pinewood Christian again at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
