Basketball Preview: Tri-City Christian Eagles vs. El Cajon Valley Braves

Two dominant guards in Katie Busch and Asia Marie Dixon are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. Having just played yesterday, the Tri-City Christian Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the El Cajon Valley Braves at 6:30 p.m. on February 6th. Tri-City Christian has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last five games.

On Monday, Tri-City Christian came up short against the Eagles and fell 63-52. Tri-City Christian has not had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.

Busch put forth a good effort for the losing side as she dropped a double-double on 19 points and 14 rebounds. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last 12 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Giselle Murray, who scored six points along with six rebounds.

Meanwhile, El Cajon Valley had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They strolled past Santana with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 35-21. The win was just what El Cajon Valley needed coming off of a 54-12 loss in their prior contest.

El Cajon Valley's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from McKinley Morgan, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds. Morgan is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last ten games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Onnamarie Miller, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Tri-City Christian's loss dropped their record down to 13-9. As for El Cajon Valley, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-15.

Tuesday's matchup is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Tri-City Christian have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 34.4 rebounds per game. However, it's not like El Cajon Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29.1 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Everything came up roses for Tri-City Christian against the Braves in their previous meeting back in February of 2017 as the team secured a 57-22 win. With Tri-City Christian ahead 31-8 at the half, the match was all but over already.
