Baseball Game Preview: Winters Warriors vs. University Prep Panthers

Winters has gone a perfect 4-0 against University Prep recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Warriors will square off against the Panthers at 4:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Winters comes in on three and University Prep on five.

Winters is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They walked away with an 8-5 victory over East Nicolaus. Surprisingly, this marked the third straight game in which the away team has come away the victor in this series.

Jordan Calvert made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He is becoming a predictor of Winters' success: when he allows at most one hit the team is undefeated (and 12-13 when he doesn't). Calvert was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with two runs.

In other batting news, Winters got a big performance out of Cole Jordling, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Jake Woods was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Meanwhile, University Prep had just enough and edged out Durham 9-8 on Tuesday.

Winters' record now sits at 17-13. As for University Prep, their record is now 13-14-1.

Winters skirted past University Prep 2-0 when the teams last played back in May of 2022. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Warriors since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
