Baseball Recap: Grovetown Picks Up Sixth Consecutive Win

Grovetown waltzed into their contest on Thursday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They put the hurt on the Rockdale County Bulldogs with a sharp 8-1 win. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matchups by six runs or more this season.

Coby Eckert made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jack Powell, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Bobby Whitley, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Grovetown kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive games.

Grovetown's record is now 20-7. As for Rockdale County, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 13 of their last 14 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-20 record this season.

Grovetown and Rockdale County will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next matchups. The next time the Warriors see the field they'll take on Heritage at 5:30 p.m. on the 14th. As for Rockdale County, their break will end when they face Cedar Shoals at 6:00 p.m. on the 13th.
