Baseball Game Preview: Sprayberry Yellow Jackets vs. Pope Greyhounds

Sprayberry is 0-10 against Pope since March of 2021 but things could change on Thursday. The Yellow Jackets will take on the Greyhounds at 5:55 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Sprayberry is headed into the contest having just posted their closest victory since February 26, 2024 on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Lassiter 2-1. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Meanwhile, Pope had already won 14 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it 15 on Friday. Everything went their way against the Raiders as they made off with a 12-3 victory. The result was nothing new for the Greyhounds, who have now won 11 matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Pope pushed their record up to 21-3 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games. As for Sprayberry, their win bumped their record up to 4-19.

Sprayberry suffered a grim 9-3 defeat to Pope when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can the Yellow Jackets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
