Basketball Game Preview: Canyon Cowboys vs. Mesa Jackrabbits

Having just played yesterday, the Canyon Cowboys will jump right back in to play the Mesa Jackrabbits at 9:00 a.m. on Friday. Canyon is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.7 points per game this season.

On Thursday, Canyon was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 65-61 to Inderkum. While losing is never fun, the Cowboys can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 255th, while the Tigers are ranked 76th).

Despite the loss, Canyon had strong showings from Shannen Wilson, who went 7 for 16 on her way to 22 points and six rebounds, and Jasmine Williams, who posted eight points and 14 rebounds. That was a full 36.1% of Canyon's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooke Phillips, who put up eight points and eight rebounds.

Even though they lost, Canyon smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in six consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Mesa was beaten by Skutt Catholic 56-14 on Wednesday. The matchup marked the Jackrabbits' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Mesa has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season. As for Canyon, their record is now 6-6.
