Baseball Recap: Geneva Takes a Loss

Geneva suffered their biggest loss since April 22nd on Tuesday. They lost 11-2 to the St. Charles East Fighting Saints. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Vikings, who until this contest were averaging 3.53 runs allowed.

Geneva got a good showing from Matthew Martija, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Martija has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Mason Bruesch was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. Alex Abraham was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI.

Geneva's defeat dropped their record down to 26-6. As for St. Charles East, their record is now 20-11.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Geneva beat the Fighting Saints by a score of 10-0 on Wednesday.
