Basketball Preview: Waynesburg Central Raiders vs. South Park Eagles
Waynesburg Central is on a 18-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while the Eagles are on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Waynesburg Central Raiders will take on the South Park Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
In what's become a running theme this season, Waynesburg Central gave their fans yet another huge win on Thursday. They blew past Yough 49-19 at home. Given Waynesburg Central's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 86th, while the Cougars are ranked 451st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Avery Davis was a one-man wrecking crew for Waynesburg Central as she scored 15 points along with five rebounds and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Peyton Cowell, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds.
Meanwhile, South Park blew past the Cougars, posting a 61-30 win at home.
Waynesburg Central's win bumped their record up to 18-1. As for South Park, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season.
Waynesburg Central was able to grind out a solid victory over the Eagles in their previous meeting back in January, winning 48-36. Will Waynesburg Central repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
