Cara Benton leads a balanced attack to beat Mount Union

Recap: Tussey Mountain Titans vs. Mount Union Trojans

The Tussey Mountain Titans entered their tilt with the Mount Union Trojans with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. Tussey Mountain was the clear victor by a 47-27 margin over Mount Union. Given Tussey Mountain's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 227th, while Mount Union is ranked 593rd), the result on Thursday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Tussey Mountain got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Cara Benton out in front who scored 11 points along with nine rebounds. Benton is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Brianna Gabrielson, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds.

Several Trojans players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Maddie Dimoff, who scored eight points. Cailyn Skopic was another key contributor, scoring nine points.

Tussey Mountain's victory bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Mount Union, they bumped their record down to 0-3 with that loss, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Tussey Mountain will face off against West Branch at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Mount Union, they will head out on the road to face off against Fannett Metal at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Fannett Metal is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
