Football Recap: Van Wert Comes Up Short

Van Wert lost against Wapakoneta back in September of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Cougars lost to the Redskins at home by a 42-28 margin. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio football rankings (they are ranked 201st, while the Redskins are ranked 81st).

Despite the loss, Van Wert still got an impressive performance from Xavier Kelly, who rushed for 167 yards and four scores while picking up 9.8 yards per carry. Kelly is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 105 every time he's taken the field this season. Van Wert also got help from Micah Cowan, who showed off his sure hands for 114 receiving yards.

Van Wert's loss was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Wapakoneta, the win keeps them at an undefeated 6-0.
