Baseball Recap: South Lake Takes a Loss

South Lake dropped to 9-9 on Wednesday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They came up short against the Madison Eagles, falling 12-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Cavaliers have suffered since April 24th.

As for Madison, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 12-3. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won nine contests by six runs or more so far this season.

For Madison's part, Landon Wargo made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over 4.1 innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Wargo has posted since back in May of 2025. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Eavan Olceski, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four stolen bases, and three runs. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Shawn Dennis, who went 1-for-4 with three stolen bases and three runs.

Coming up, South Lake will head out to take on Lincoln at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Abes have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 17.25 runs per game on average), something the Cavaliers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Madison, they will host Hamtramck at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
