Basketball Recap: Ballou Takes a Loss

After soaring to 59 points the game before, Ballou was a bit more limited in their game on Saturday. They were outmatched by the Chesapeake Math & IT Academy North Tigers and fell 69-30. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Knights came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 33rd in District of Columbia, while the Tigers are ranked 85th in Maryland).

Despite the defeat, Ballou had strong showings from Ryheem Benton, who posted seven points and five rebounds, and Isaih Williams, who earned eight points.

Amir Morton produced another solid effort going 7-for-10 en route to 19 points and six boards for Chesapeake Math & IT Academy North. Morton is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 60% in the last five games he's played dating back to last season. Joshua Owolabi was another key player, putting up ten points along with seven rebounds and three steals.

Ballou's loss dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Chesapeake Math & IT Academy North, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Ballou will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Friendship Collegiate Academy at 1:00 p.m. on January 3, 2026. Chesapeake Math & IT Academy North and Laurel will round out the year against one another at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers will be up against the Spartans' rather soft defense (which has allowed 62.33 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
