Softball Game Preview: Fitzgerald Purple Hurricane vs. Irwin County Indians

The Fitzgerald Purple Hurricane will face off against the Irwin County Indians at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Fitzgerald has struggled recently with four defeats in a row, while Irwin County will arrive with 17 straight victories.

Fitzgerald fell victim to Crisp County and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They lost 10-0 to the Cougars.

Meanwhile, Irwin County made easy work of Charlton County on Tuesday and carried off an 11-1 win. Irwin County might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 matchups by eight runs or more this season.

Brooklyn Gordon made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Sailor Mixon was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Brynlee Brown was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Irwin County's victory bumped their record up to 19-2. As for Fitzgerald, their loss dropped their record down to 3-25.
