Basketball Recap: Highland Tech Takes a Loss + How To Watch

Highland Tech extended their losing streak to four on Wednesday, dropping them down to 1-6. They took a 59-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Central Academy of Technology & Arts Cougars. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 48-43 last Thursday.

Despite the defeat, Highland Tech saw an underclassman step up: freshman Darius Stinson Jr posted 31 points. Stinson Jr also set a new season-high mark in three-point shooting accuracy with 43%. Another player making a difference was Irvin Thompson, who dropped a double-double with ten points and 16 rebounds.

As for Central Academy of Technology & Arts, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 5-2. While they didn't have the best season last year (they finished 1-24), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Michael Hoff had an outrageously good game as he shot 53% from the field on his way to 24 points in addition to seven boards and four steals. That's the most steals he has posted since back in January. The team also got some help courtesy of Torres Adam, who had three points along with 11 rebounds and five assists.

Looking ahead, Highland Tech will welcome Cherryville at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Rams will be up against the Ironmen's rather soft defense (which has allowed 67 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Central Academy of Technology & Arts, they will head out to take on West Stanly at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cougars will be up against the Colts' rather soft defense (which has allowed 62.33 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
