Basketball Recap: Foothill's Loss Ends Six-Game Winning Streak at Home

It was a proper cat-fight when Foothill challenged Chico on Friday. The Foothill Cougars took a 54-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Chico Panthers. The defeat continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now lost six in a row.

Foothill's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaymes Arnold, who posted 12 points. Kalli Smith was another key player, putting up eight points along with five assists and five boards.

Even though they lost, Foothill was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Chico only posted nine assists.

Chico's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kayleigh Solano, who had 18 points and eight rebounds. Solano is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Corrina Stephens, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 20 boards.

Foothill's defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 9-7. As for Chico, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season.

Foothill will head out to challenge Shasta at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Foothill is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.4 points per game this season. As for Chico, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 47-44 victory against Arcata on the 11th.
