Baseball Recap: Riverton Takes a Loss

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Riverton couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They fell 4-1 to the Lehi Pioneers on Wednesday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Pioneers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-0 on Monday.

McKade Ortiz was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the first time he hasn't allowed a single hit since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

In other pitching news, Riverton got a good showing from Nolan Pezely, who tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Pezely has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.

Riverton's loss dropped their record down to 20-10. As for Lehi, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 18-11 record this season.

Riverton does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Lehi, they will square off against American Fork at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Pioneers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cavemen have averaged an impressive 7.4 runs per game this season.
