Basketball Game Preview: Sayre Redskins vs. Cowanesque Valley Indians

Sayre and Cowanesque Valley are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2017, but not for long. The Sayre Redskins will host the Cowanesque Valley Indians at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Sayre is coming into the match on a six-game losing streak.

Sayre is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Wyalusing Valley on Monday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Sayre was beaten by Wyalusing Valley 63-21. The Redskins were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 46-9.

Sayre's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Rylee Lantz, who posted four points in addition to eight boards and five steals, and Reghan McGaughey, who had no points. The dominant performance gave Lantz a new career-high in steals.

Meanwhile, in a tight game that could have gone either way, Cowanesque Valley made off with a 57-56 victory over Mansfield.

Cowanesque Valley's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Sayre, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-7.

Sayre couldn't quite finish off Cowanesque Valley in their previous meeting back in February of 2024 and fell 48-45. Can Sayre avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
