Softball Recap: Arvada West Falls Short Against Ranked Lakewood

Arvada West faced Lakewood in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Wildcats wound up with the same score they had in their last game (6-5), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-4 back in September.

Morgan Farr spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and five unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Makinzi Gallegos was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Fousel, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Arvada West's loss dropped their record down to 13-6. As for Lakewood, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season.

Arvada West wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 4-2 defeat against Chatfield on the 6th. As for Lakewood, they will square off against Bear Creek at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
