Basketball Recap: Leahnette Castro-Galarza's Big Game Can't Quite Lead La Quinta over Palm Desert

If La Quinta was feeling good fresh off their 51-22 takedown of Calipatria last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The La Quinta Blackhawks took a 47-30 bruising from the Palm Desert Aztecs on Monday. The Blackhawks have struggled against the Aztecs recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Several Blackhawks players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Leahnette Castro-Galarza, who posted ten points and three steals. Castro-Galarza is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Julia Alvarez-Ladd, who earned five points.

Palm Desert's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Katelyn Gallagher, who went 6 of 10 on her way to 13 points and eight steals. Another player making a difference was Ava Tethal, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine boards.

La Quinta's loss dropped their record down to 8-8. As for Palm Desert, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season.

La Quinta will venture away from home to face off against Palm Springs at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Palm Desert, they will challenge Rancho Mirage at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Palm Desert is facing Rancho Mirage at the right time seeing as Rancho Mirage is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
