Basketball Recap: Providence Takes a Loss

Providence was the 55-34 winner over Polytechnic when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Providence Pioneers had to suffer through a 70-21 loss at the hands of the Polytechnic Panthers. While losing is never fun, the Pioneers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 976th, while the Panthers are ranked 422nd).

Leading Polytechnic to victory were Areni Ohanian and Maggie Scholze. Ohanian went 9 for 20 en route to 24 points along with seven rebounds and four steals, while Scholze made all 6 shots she took racking up 16 points and eight steals. Scholze has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Harper Doyle, who posted ten points.

Providence has been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last ten matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season. As for Polytechnic, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Providence will square off against Flintridge Prep at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Polytechnic, they will challenge Mayfield at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Polytechnic is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.2 points per game this season.
