Basketball Game Preview: Cabrillo Jaguars vs. Mary Star of the Sea Stars

The Cabrillo Jaguars will head out on the road to square off against the Mary Star of the Sea Stars at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Cabrillo has struggled recently with seven defeats in a row, while Mary Star of the Sea will arrive with four straight victories.

Last Friday, Cabrillo was beaten by Millikan 60-29.

Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Mary Star of the Sea ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 51-49 win over Sacred Heart of Jesus. That's two games straight that the Stars have won by exactly two points.

Mary Star of the Sea is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 11-11 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 21.7 points per game. As for Cabrillo, their loss dropped their record down to 7-14.

Everything went Cabrillo's way against Mary Star of the Sea when the teams last played back in November of 2023, as Cabrillo made off with a 57-32 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Cabrillo since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
