Baseball Recap: Belleville West Victorious

Belleville West came out on top against Civic Memorial on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run fourth inning. The Maroons sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-6 win over the Eagles. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Maroons have posted since March 23rd.

The team relied heavily on Jacob Schmidt, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and one double. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryce Schaltenbrand, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Belleville West lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Belleville West has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-6-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Civic Memorial, the loss snapped their winning streak at five games and leaves them with a 11-6 record.

Looking ahead, Belleville West will head out on the road to challenge Christian Brothers at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Civic Memorial, they will host Triad at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
