Mississippi quarterback Forrest Williams makes national stat stars list the same weekend former Amory standout Mitch Moreland reaches World Series for second year in a row.
One year ago, Forrest Williams of Amory (Miss.) threw for 582 yards to make the MaxPreps National Stat Stars list. The same night Williams had his big game, Amory alumnus Mitch Moreland of the Texas Rangers advanced to the World Series with a win over the New York Yankees.
This weekend, the Amory duo did it again.
Williams, who made the stat stars list last week with a 505-yard effort, threw for 442 yards in a 30-7 win over Shannon on Friday. The next night, Moreland and the Rangers advanced to their second straight World Series with a win over the Detroit Tigers.
Last year, Williams and the Amory Panthers struggled to a 3-9 season. This year, things have turned around and the Panthers are 7-2 on the season with Williams throwing for 2,607 yards and 30 touchdowns. Perhaps the improved performance of the Panthers is a sign of good luck for Moreland, whose Rangers lost to the San Francisco Giants in last year's World Series.
Following are the rest of this week's National Football Stat Stars as reported by coaches to MaxPreps.
