Basketball Recap: Emma Webster's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Western Christian over Hemet

Western Christian lost against Hemet back in November of 2022 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Western Christian Fighting Lancers lost to the Hemet Bulldogs on the road by a 40-26 margin. While losing is never fun, the Fighting Lancers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 916th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 177th).

Western Christian lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Emma Webster, who went 6 of 15 on her way to 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Izzy Balderrama, who posted two points and 13 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Western Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in seven consecutive games.

Hemet got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Ruby Gonzalez- Horta out in front who put up eight points in addition to 11 boards and three steals. Gonzalez- Horta is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down ten or more in the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Hailey Wolbeck, who had six points along with 12 boards and three steals.

Western Christian has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season. As for Hemet, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-1.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Perris the next time they take the court. Western Christian will head out to face Perris at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, while Hemet will play them later in the day, at 7:30 p.m.
