Metter is 6-1 against Screven County since November of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Tigers will head out on the road to square off against the Gamecocks at 7:30 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Metter is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They breezed past Claxton to the tune of 45-0 on Friday. The victory continues a trend for Metter in their matchups with Claxton: they've now won seven in a row.
Michael Ricks was his usual excellent self, rushing for 121 yards and one score on only six carries, while also throwing for 186 yards and three touchdowns. That's the most passing touchdowns he has posted since back in August of 2024. Keyshawn Polk was another key player, picking up 103 receiving yards and one TD.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Metter was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 201 rushing yards. They are a perfect 3-0 when they've run for more than 200 yards.
Meanwhile, Screven County was not the first on the board on Friday, but they got there more often. They came out on top against Bryan County by a score of 19-9. Those 19 points were actually the fewest the Gamecocks have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.
Metter better keep an eye on Demarko Ward. He was instrumental in Screven County's win, rushing for 153 yards and a pair of scores on only 14 carries. Ward really tore up the turf during one magnificent 79-yard run.
One reason for the win was Screven County's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for eight sacks. In that department, Luke Bohannon was the leader with five.
Metter's win bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Screven County, their victory bumped their record up to 6-0.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Metter has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 183.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Screven County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 259.3 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything came up roses for Metter against Screven County in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 34-6 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
