Volleyball Recap: Union Spartans vs. East Columbus Gators
If Union was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Lakewood on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Spartans came up short against the East Columbus Gators on Tuesday, falling 3-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Gators this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-0 on September 4th.
Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-14, 25-16, 25-7.
Leading East Columbus to victory were Brittany Mitchell and Ashlynn Smith. Mitchell had five aces and three digs, while Smith had eight digs. Those five aces gave Mitchell a new career-high.
Union's loss was their eighth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-14. As for East Columbus, the victory (which was their 11th in a row) raised their record to 12-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Union will welcome East Bladen at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for East Columbus, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Fairmont at 6:00 p.m.
