Football Recap: Dynamic Duo of Ashton Wynn and Jack Conness Lead Trego to Victory

Trego extended their winning streak to three on Friday, bumping them up to 3-0. They came within six points of losing the streak, but they secured a 40-34 W against the Rawlins County Buffaloes. For the Golden Eagles, this counts as revenge for the 42-24 win the Buffaloes walked away with the last time they faced one another back in September of 2024.

Leading Trego to victory were Jack Conness and Ashton Wynn. Conness gained 140 total yards and two touchdowns, while Wynn rushed for 71 yards and one score. An impressive showing, but Wynn really ramped things up playing D: he forced two fumbles, made 26 total tackles, and defended one pass.

Having lost for the first time this season, Rawlins County fell to 2-1. Despite 151 more yards than Trego, the Buffaloes couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.

Rawlins County's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Austin Chumley, who rushed for 128 yards and one touchdown, and also picked up 30 receiving yards. Chumley was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 50 yards. Dominique Paz also helped with three TDs in total.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Trego will challenge Wichita County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Rawlins County, they will welcome Hill City at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 874 yards in their previous games.
