Baseball Game Preview: Civic Memorial Eagles vs. Jersey Panthers

The Civic Memorial Eagles will head out to square off against the Jersey Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Friday, Civic Memorial beat Granite City 6-3. That's two games straight that the Eagles have won by exactly three runs.

Jacob Flowers made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Flowers wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Dane Godar, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles and one run. Those two doubles gave Godar a new career-high.

Civic Memorial was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Jersey came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the Warriors. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Panthers have posted against the Warriors since May 10, 2016.

Civic Memorial's record is now 13-8. As for Jersey, their record now sits at 14-5.

Civic Memorial skirted past Jersey 2-1 in their previous meeting back in April of 2025. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
