Basketball Game Preview: Chico Panthers vs. Shasta Wolves

Chico is 9-1 against Shasta since January of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Chico Panthers will look to defend their home court against the Shasta Wolves at 7:30 p.m. Chico will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

Chico will bounce into Tuesday's match after beating Pleasant Valley, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. Chico snuck past Pleasant Valley with a 51-45 victory on Friday. The win was all the more spectacular given the Panthers' disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 134th, while the Vikings are ranked 21st).

Chico can attribute much of their success to Josie Carlos, who posted 25 points and four steals, and Ellie Harrison, who went 5 of 11 on her way to 15 points and three steals. Carlos has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. Corrina Stephens was another key player, putting up eight points and ten rebounds.

Meanwhile, Shasta beat Enterprise 48-40 on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wolves.

Chico better keep an eye on Bria Tate. She was instrumental in Shasta's win, scoring 17 points. Another player making a difference was Riley Rosales, who earned nine points.

Shasta is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-2 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.4 points per game. As for Chico, they pushed their record up to 12-6 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

Chico couldn't quite finish off Shasta when the teams last played on January 2nd and fell 49-47. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Shasta's Cali Soule, who put up 21 points.
