Softball Recap: Lyons Starts Season with Victory on the Road

Lyons had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Silver Creek Raptors an 11-0 shutout. This was payback for the Lions, who suffered a 9-8 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Gretta Wynja was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Wynja was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and five RBI. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Lyons got a big performance out of Greta Hildebrand, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with three runs. Ava Vasquez was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs.

Coming up, Lyons will head out to square off against Rocky Ford at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Silver Creek, they will welcome Conifer at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
