Westwood hasn't had much luck against Citizens Christian Academy recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Wildcats are taking a road trip to square off against the Patriots at 12:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Westwood is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand David Emanuel Academy a 12-0 shutout. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wildcats.
The team relied heavily on Sam Summerlin, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run and four RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Cade Swilley, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Westwood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as David Emanuel Academy only posted an OBP of .222.
Meanwhile, Citizens Christian Academy came tearing into Saturday's contest with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.6 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Jaguars with a sharp 18-0 win. The Patriots' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Blake Bryant made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
In other batting news, Gray McLean was a standout: he got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Landon Williams also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Citizens Christian Academy pushed their record up to 19-7-2 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.2 runs over those games. As for Westwood, their record is now 16-10.
Thursday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Westwood has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .436. However, it's not like Citizens Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .466. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
