Soccer Game Preview: Johnson vs. Liberty County

The Johnson Atomsmashers are taking a road trip to square off against the Liberty County Panthers at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Johnson will be strutting in after a victory while Liberty County will be coming in after a loss.

Johnson took a three-goal defeat the last time they faced off against St. Andrew's, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Johnson narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past St. Andrew's 2-1.

Meanwhile, while it was all tied up 0-0 at halftime, Liberty County was not quite Groves' equal in the second half on Thursday. They fell just short of the Rebels by a score of 2-1. The loss continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Rebels: they've now lost four in a row.

Liberty County's goal came courtesy of Trey Aiello, who's now up to nine this season.

Johnson is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. Liberty County's defeat dropped their record down to 4-3.

Johnson came out on top in a nail-biter against Liberty County when the teams last played back in February of 2024, sneaking past 4-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for Johnson since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
