Football Recap: Warde Takes a Loss

Warde's last matchup with Staples could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's contest on Friday. The Mustangs were beaten by the Wreckers 49-13. Having soared to a lofty 31 points in the game before, the Mustangs couldn't push the score so high this time.

Andrew Shelov and James Dellavolpe certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Shelov picked up 133 receiving yards and one TD, while Dellavolpe threw for 219 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Staples had a senior duo take command as Nick Weil threw for 141 yards and three touchdowns and Chaz Darby gained 77 total yards and three touchdowns. Charlie Clark was in the mix too, providing the Wreckers with two scores.

Warde suffered their first home defeat, dropping their record down to 4-2. As for Staples, they pushed their record up to 5-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Warde will welcome Wilton at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Mustangs will need to watch out since the Warriors have now posted at least 31 points in their last three matchups. As for Staples, they will be playing in front of their home fans against St. Joseph at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Cadets' defense has only allowed 12.2 points per game this season, so the Wreckers' offense will have their work cut out for them.
