Baseball Recap: Lee Academy Comes Up Short

Lee Academy had lost five straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped down to 4-9 to make it six. They fell just short of the Penquis Valley Patriots by a score of 14-13. The Pandas were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Patriots earlier this season, when they won 7-6.

Austen Jipson put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and 12 unearned) runs off six hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in April. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run.

In other batting news, Lance Haskell was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That stolen base marked the first that he has snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Brayden Tozier, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

As for Penquis Valley, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-11. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their one-run performance the game before.

On Penquis Valley's side, they let Brodie Lovejoy and Jacoby Landry run wild. Lovejoy went 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI, while Landry went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Those two hits gave Landry a new career-high. Liam Atkinson was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

Lee Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Penquis Valley, they will be playing at home against Schenck at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
